Sofia Vergara is a great way to start a movie.
Wild Card
IMDB describes 2015’s Wild Card like so:
When a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal skills and a gambling problem gets in trouble with the mob, he has one last play…and it’s all or nothing.
I never woulda watched Wild Card – BUT.
But I watched The Bank Job last week and Hulu automatically coat-tailed Blood Ties – then Extreme Justice – and then Wild Card.
I watched Blood Ties and Extreme Justice and liked them both but was hesitant to watch Wild Card because many movies released in 2015 are fraught cartoonish CGI.
And about 30 minutes into the movie, there it was. So I shut it off. But decided to give it another shot the next day. Good news: the CGI didn’t last long.
There were two reasons why I gave it another shot.
1 – Jason Statham starred in The Bank Job. I liked him and the movie.
2 – Sofia Vergara – the producers rolled Sofia out in the first few scenes. Ladies and gentlemen, that is quite a package and an attention-getter.
And it worked. She’s gone after those first few scenes, but she served her purpose. She hooked me. I kept waiting for her to return – but no.
Dominik Garcia replaced Sofia as the sexy female lead. Don’t be fooled by the first name. Not a male.
Pay attention to the last name. She’s Andy Garcia’s the daughter – 16 acting credits but I never saw her in anything.
Attractive, sexy, and a good actress.
She gets highjacked inside an elevator at a Las Vegas casino, strong-armed into a hotel suite, raped, beaten, and dumped on the roadside outside the ER. She then goes to her ex-love interest Jason Statham to even the score.
Milo Ventimiglia plays the rich punk who attacked her – 76 acting credits – never heard of him or saw him in anything else. He was very annoying – but he was supposed to be annoying – so I guess he’s pretty good.
Surprised to see Anne Heche playing a waitress in such a minor role.
George Castanza musta had his nose up someone’s butt to get a few minutes of screen time. He served no purpose.
Stanley Tucci comes on late and plays a Godfather-like casino boss who decides who will live or die.
I like Stanley Tucci, but never woulda recognized him. Quite a makeup and hair job.
So that’s it. Liked it and glad I watched it.
Here’s a trailer.
