The Bank Job

IMBD describes 2008’s The Bank Job like so: Martine (Saffron Burrows) offers Terry (Jason Statham) a lead on a foolproof bank hit on London’s Baker Street (Bank).

She targets a roomful of safe deposit boxes worth millions in cash and jewelry along with a treasure trove of dirty secrets.

I never saw this until a year ago when my facebook buddy D – Darlene A. McGarrity – mentioned it. So I checked it out. A 2008 movie. So there’s probably no CGI or bluescreen. Figuring it was a real movie, I watched it.

I’ll say this once. This is a Brit movie. Other than David Suchet, I never saw any of these actors in anything before. But I saw good acting and a good movie.

Supposedly based on a true story and abundant T & A from the first scene on.

A bunch of young adults frolicking in the Caribbean – bathing suits coming off – and next thing you know – one of the young women is spread-eagled across the bed with a few people going at her from all directions.

At the same time a Jamaican local is peeping thru the window snapping pictures of the orgy.

Although the face of the young woman getting her cookies crumbled is never seen, she’s a crucial part of the plot because she’s a member of the royal family. And those photos will make their way into a safe deposit box back In London. The box belongs to a black militant who uses the photos for blackmail.

Like I said, plenty of T & A. Strip clubs and a high-class whore house with topless waitresses walking around all over the place. A member of Parliament is a regular customer and winds up in a private room naked and chained to a rack while a female sex worker lashes him with a whip. By the way, someone takes photos of him that also make their way into another safe deposit box.

David Suchet owns a bar, produces pornographic films, and makes graft payments to quite a few London police officers for protection. He keeps a record of every illegal payment in a ledger which he also keeps in a safe deposit box.

Two things hooked me on the movie – Jason Statham, a rugged-looking dude, and Saffron Burrows who looked sexy as all get out. But they dressed her in bulky outfits and shot her at angles where you never got a good look at her body.

She talks him into getting a gang together to tunnel into the bank and rob the safe deposit boxes. Statham’s gang is only after the money.

But Burrows has been played by a James Bond character because his agency wants to get its hands on the pictures of the royal family princess to destroy them.

Last week when Sean Connery passed away I posted Richard’s Lintern’s photo because he plays a Bond look-a-like.

There are two pieces of more-or-less homage to rock ‘n’ roll idols.

Saffron Burrows has a safe deposit box at the bank. When she takes Stathman to the bank to case the joint, the guard opening the safe deposit vault is Mick Jagger.

The man who holds the photos of the royal princess is a black militant who calls himself Michael X in honor of Malcolm X. When he hosts a dinner party he’s seated right next to look-alikes for John Lennon and Yoko Ono – two known commies and sympathizers of the black militant movement.

Jason Statham has 52 credits. He was in 2000’s Snatch. I watched the movie but don’t remember him.

Saffron Burrows has 67 acting credits – 5 in Boston Legal and 5 in Amazon’s original series Motzart in the Jungle – but I never saw either.

David Suchet has 116 acting credits. He caught my eye in 2003’s The In-Laws remake and I saw later him as detective Hercule Poirot in the Poirot TV series.

Here’s the trailer for The Bank Job.
