Jennifer 8

Jennifer 8

Jennifer 8 is 1992 crime drama mystery starring Andy Garcia, Uma Thurman, and Lance Henrikson.

In case Henrikson’s name doesn’t ring a bell, I remember him best as Bishop in Aliens (1986). That said, he has 253 acting credits and he’s still very much active at 79.

John Malkovich has a minor, but significant part, and, as usual, is excellent.

I never heard of writer/director Bruce Robinson before. He’s a Brit actor who also wrote 1984’s very successful The Killing Field. Otherwise he didn’t accomplish that much to write home about, but he did a masterful job with Jennifer 8.

I saw Jennifer 8 when it first came out, a couple times, but the only thing I remembered was the scene when Uma Thurman’s body double strips naked and gets in the bathtub. I watched the movie end to end last night and couldn’t anticipate what was going to happen next ─ all the way to the final scenes.

My only criticism is that, in a couple scenes, Andy Garcia’s guilty of slipping into Al Pacino’s School of Over-Acting.

Andy Garcia plays an L.A. detective who quits to take a similar job with his former mentor (Henrikson) in Eureka, California, where he immediately identifies the dirty work of a serial killer. Uma Thurman is the key to catching the serial killer. Making it tricky, she’s blind and teaches at a boarding school for blind students in the middle of the wilderness.

I never recognized her talent before, but she was really good. This was two years before Pulp Fiction.

I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.

My first book – Born to Be Wild – was published in 1992 and is still selling on Amazon & Kindle. it’s a true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.

The story took 21 years to play out with many twists & turns. It’s an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
