Copycat takes you inside the minds of serial killers to see what makes them tick.
IMDB describes Copycat like so:
“An agoraphobic psychologist and a female detective must work together to take down a serial killer who copies serial killers from the past.”
I was spending the winter with a rich girl in Ponte Vedra, Florida, when I first saw Copycat. Her father was a big-time psychiatrist and he asked me to edit a book he was writing about anxiety disorders.
Quite a few case-studies involved agoraphobia. I never heard of the affliction before but gained tremendous insight on Sigourney Weaver’s character – and she played the role quite well.
Sigourney Weaver is an author/expert on serial killers. She racked up 89 credits – three of my favorites are Ghostbusters (1984), Aliens (1986), and Dave (1993).
Gotta say this, I still can’t understand how Harry Connick, Jr. got his own talk show. I never saw a talent – but he was magnificent as serial killer Daryll Lee Cullum. In all, 34 acting credits but only other one I saw is Independence Day (1996).
Holly Hunter is real good as the detective trying to solve the case – 64 credits – Raising Arizona (1987), Broadcast News (1987), and The Firm (1993).
Dermot Mulroney is her partner (129 credits). I loved him as Jennifer Anniston’s love interest in several episodes of Friends (2003), The Wedding Date (2005), and Must Love Dogs (2005).
William McNamara plays the copycat serial killer. He has 127 credits but I only saw one other movie he was in – Snitch (1996) – but don’t remember him.
As America’s Best Crime Writer, I found this movie to be outstanding.
The first episode of the Lew Kaminski saga – Cleopatra Murdered – is now available as a paperback at Amazon.
