Casting the Long Arm of the Law

We already casted Steve Piasecki and his sidekick My Friend, the 3 leading gals, and the crew at Babes in Toyland. Now let’s cast the long arm of the law – the C.I.D. chief and 2 detectives, the county M.E., the D.A., his chief prosecutor, and a DEA agent.

So here’s who we got so far:

  • Barry Bowe as Steve Piasecki
  • Mike Tartaglia as My Friend
  • Marissa Tomei as Jade
  • Yvonne Strahovski as Jess
  • Rachel Taylor as Margo
  • Sly Stallone as Sal the Bouncer
  • Elizabeth Berkely as Candi
  • Nora Fitehi as Farrah
  • Jon Lovitz as Sam Cohen

The Long Arm of the Law

On to the Long Arm of the Law

Chief George

“Herbert George, just turned 50. Always wears a shirt and tie. Rarely a jacket. Sleeves rolled up to the elbows.”

Worked with George Herbert at Holiday Spa 40 years ago – just flip-flopped Herbie’s name, and we have Chief Herbert George.

Went with Scott Glenn in Silence of the Lambs.

Det. Pam Bishop

“Det. Bishop is a brunette, shapely, moderately attractive.” Early 30s, good detective.

Lotta choices here. Went back to Silence of the Lambs for Clarice Starling. Jodie Foster.

Det. Donald Chase

“Det. Chase is tall and thin, sporting a few days of uneven stubble. Early 30s.” Good detective, but a royal pain in the ass.

Lotta choices here. Penciled in Jimmy Smitts from N.Y.P.D. Blue. Then remembered Michael Douglas from Streets of San Francisco.

Dr. Nakamura

“A man carrying a medical valise arrives first. Dr. Kenneth Nakamura, 53, the county medical examiner.”

My first pick was C.S. Lee – Vince Masuka from Dexter. Woulda loved Jack Klugman from Quincy, but I wrote the character with Japanese roots. Almost took Masi Oka from the original Hawaii Five-O. His character’s name was Dr. Nakamura. Is it possible that name stuck in my brain all these years?

District Attorney Robert Greene

“Robert Greene, 49, is the district attorney. Tall and lean, he goes by Bob around the courthouse.” A tight-ass. Concerned with politics first, catching bad guys second.

Went with David Strahairn from Fracture – one of my favorite movies, with Anthony Hopkins, one of my favorite actors. Too bad I couldn’t find a role for Hopkins.

Hank Baldino

“Hank Baldino, 38, is the chief prosecutor. Originally from South Philly, short and stocky with dark wavy hair.”

Not short and stocky. No hair. But went with Stanley Tucci from The Terminal.

Frank Santangelo

“Frank Santangelo arrives almost out of breath. He’s 40, tall and stocky, a veteran of 19 years with the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.”

Not tall and stocky. But thought Baretta was a good fit. Robert Blake.

So there’s the Long Arm of the Law. Quite a crew.

Who’s Next?

Only one group left – the Judicial Group.
