The Detective
Frank Sinatra plays police detective Joe Leland in the 1968 movie The Detective. He’s a New York City cop investigating the murder of a gay man, then comes across corruption within the police department that leads him into a world of sex and drugs.
Frank Sinatra as a detective?
That’s correct. Watch the trailer below.
And get this. The Chairman of the Board played the part so well he was offered the part of John McClane in the Die Hard series. Imagine that, Frank Sinatra instead of Bruce Willis.
Gee, I wonder if he woulda wound up marrying Demi Moore? God, I hope not. Waaay toooo cuckoooo for my money.
Old Blue Eyes racked up 68 acting credits. Counting The Detective (1968) he played a cop or private investigator six times ─ Tony Rome (1967), Lady in Cement (1968), Contract on Cherry Street (1977), The First Deadly Sin (1980), and one episode of Magnum, P.I. (1987).
And as Don Vito Corleone can attest – Sinatra won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in From Here to Eternity (1953).
I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.
My first book – Born to Be Wild – Published in 1992 – Still selling on Amazon & Kindle. A true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.
The story took 21 years to play out – many twists & turns – an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy & Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
