The movie stars Richard Gere, Edward Norton, and Laura Linney. I’m also mentioning John Mahoney.
Richard Gere plays Martin Vail, a high-powered, narcissistic attorney who would do anything to grab a headline or make a buck, and he was very convincing. I just found out he was born in Philly and both of his parents were descendants of pilgrims who came to America aboard the Mayflower.
He graduated from high school in Syracuse and played several musical instruments, He won a gymnastics scholarship to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he majored in philosophy, Which could explain his weird, humanitarian, off-the-wall lifestyle. I’ll bet he believes in climate change.
He became a major start & an outstanding actor with 60 credits. I listed three other movies I loved ─ American Gigolo (1980), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), and Pretty Woman (1990).
Edward Norton (45 credits) is magnificent in his split personality role of Aaron/Roy. Hard to believe it was just his second major role. I listed three other movies I loved ─ American History X (1998), Rounders (1998), and Fight Club (1999).
Laura Linney plays ball-busting prosecutor Janet Venable. She’s Richard Gere’s courtroom adversary & former lover. Good chemistry between them. I listed three other movies I loved ─ Love Actually (2003), five episodes of Frasier (2003-2004), and Mystic River (1999).

John Mahoney plays corrupt district attorney Shaughnessy. I’m mentioning him because he plays Frasier’s father Martin Crane in Frasier, one of my favorite sitcoms.
