Which Papillon is better? The 1973 original? Or the 2017 remake?
So my Favorite Son texts me two days ago – “Do you know that they remade the movie Papillon in 2017 with Jake Gyllenhaal? I never heard they made a remake.”
I didn’t know they made a remake either – so I text back: “Does he play a gay guy?”
And he texts back: “No. It wasn’t him. It was someone who looked like him. It was as good as the Steve McQueen version.
You may be thinking of where he’s a cowboy and he gays it up. I’m gonna get you a bumper stick for your truck that says Follow Me Back to Broke Back Mountain.”
Just what I need – but as good as the Steve McQueen version? …. hmm … ya got Steve McQueen & Dustin Hoffman – gonna hafta go pretty far to top that.
So I look it up – watch it – for a 2017 movie it is pretty good – just a lotta blue screen – but pretty good blue screen – it you’re not a nitpicker like myself – you probably won’t notice it.
So the next day I text him: “The guy in jail looks like the GB qb.”
He says: “That’s who I thought looked like Gyllenhaal.”
Myself, I never liked Aaron Rogers – think he’s a creep.
So today the Favorite Son texts me:
“The original Steve McQueen was on when I got up. I have to say, when he’s stuck on that island with those natives and he has that young lovely walking around naked all the time, assigned to him, I’d have to say, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
Forgot all about that – hafta look up the original & see what he’s talking about.

Warner Books published Born to Be Wild in 1992 & it still sells every day at Amazon & Kindle. True story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.
The story takes 21 years to play out – with many twists & turns – an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy & Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
