Manchurian Candidate 2004

Manchurian Candidate 2004 is a money-grab trying to coattail off the original.

IMDB describes 2004’s version like so:

“In the midst of the Gulf War, soldiers are kidnapped and brainwashed for sinister purposes.”

Some of my favorites are in this movie – Denzel Washington – Liev Schreiber – Jon Voight.

The story starts out in Kuwait in 1991 just before Desert Storm – Denzel Washington plays the officer-in-charge. Liev Schreiber plays a sergeant under his command.

Their outfit – the Lost Patrol – walks into an ambush – shit hits the fan – and they can’t possibly win the skirmish – but Schreiber turns into fucking Superman and defeats the enemy single-handedly.

Schreiber then parlays that heroism into a run for the vice-presidency – with his mother – a U.S. senator – pulling the strings – Meryl Streep plays herself – a manipulative, underhanded, back-stabbing – and a word I rarely use when describing a female – bitch – she plays Schreiber’s mother.

Jon Voight plays a politician.

But wait – the heroic act never happened – it’s all a mirage – the soldiers were brainwashed into believing the fable – and if you don’t think brainwashing is possible – look at people wearing masks and social distancing.

But the brainwashing in this movie is so far-fetched.

Myself – I would not have been involved in this movie in any capacity whatsoever – it’s a money-grab trying to coattail off the original.
