Goldfinger

1964 – what an interesting year in my life.

The Phillies blew the pennant – I got married – & United Artists released Goldfinger.

IMDB describes the movie like so: “While investigating a gold magnate’s smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve.”

A massive understatement.

James Bond & Goldfinger were to movies like Archie Bunker & All in the Family were to TV – cutting edge, groundbreaking, & iconoclastic. That movie turned who-the-hell is Sean Connery into a sex symbol & generated a series of twenty-three more blockbusters over the next fifty years.

There are twenty-four James Bond at last count. Dr. No preceded Goldfinger by two years, but not many people heard of Dr. No until after the success of Goldfinger.

Let’s not forget Ian Fleming. He wrote eleven James Bond spy novels. He was an author, journalist, and naval intelligence officer. Ironically, he died in that same interesting year of 1964.

 I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.

My first book – Born to Be Wild – Published in 1992 – Still selling on Amazon & Kindle. A true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.

The story took 21 years to play out – many twists & turns – an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
