Dark film emphasizes cynical attitudes and sexual motivations
Desperate Hours
Woke up in the middle of a movie at 4:14 this morning – plot extremely strange & convoluted – hard to follow – guess I missed too much in the beginning – and left before the end.
Easy to ID 38-year-old Mickey Rourke – before he turned his face into a cartoon – but the other guy – even though he’s one of my favorite actors – took me a good 20 minutes to get him – a little tougher because he was wearing glasses.
(When I lived in Palm Springs during the early 1990s – ran into Mickey a few times at Gold’s Gym – Arnie, too.)
Jumped on IMDB as soon as I got home & traced the movie to 1990’s Desperate Hours. Watching it now to see if I can follow it.
IMDB describes Desperate Hours like so:
“An escaped con, on the run from the law, moves into a married couple’s house and takes over their lives.”
P.S. – It wasn’t me – it was the movie – Desperate Hours is a “film noir” – a dark film that emphasizes cynical attitudes and sexual motivations – & they make it weird on purpose.
I watched the beginning and the middle – but it was still convoluted and confusing – so I turned it off – STINX.
The movie stars Mickey Rourke – 92 acting credits – saw him in Body Heat, Diner, The Pope of Greenwich Village, Wild Orchid, The Rainmaker, Man on Fire, The Wrestler, and Killshot – thought he was good every time.
The movie also stars the guy I couldn’t recognize – one of my favorite actors – Anthony Hopkins – 138 acting credits – saw him in A Bridge Too Far, The Elephant Man, The Silence of the Lambs, Legends of the Fall, Meet Joe Black, and Fracture.
Three females.
Mimi Rodgers – 112 acting credits, but I only saw her in 1987’s Someone to Watch Over Me with Tom Berenger & Lorraine Bracco
Lindsay Crouse – 79 acting credits – IMDB says she in 1977’s Slapshot – but you can’t prove it by me.
Kelly Lynch – 57 acting credits – she supposedly hooked up with Patrick Swayze when they were shooting 1989’s Roadhouse – and I saw 1989’s Cocktail with Tom Cruise – but don’t remember her in either.
By the way, I got a better feel from the trailer than I did the movie. Here it is.
