Crissie’s Last Swim

Crissie’s Last Swim

Did anyone see this coming? Seriously?

If you looked at the movie poster, you might’ve had an inkling that something was up. But WOW. Poor Crissie got eaten up while her drunk pursuer passed out on the beach.

I never saw it coming, not like that. And here’s the kick in the nuts for Susan Backlinie – that’s who played Crissie. They simulated her image swimming on the movie poster, but never mentioned her – not even in fine print at the bottom. I never heard her name until yesterday.

Jaws came out in 1975. I was living in Fort Lauderdale at the time, and there was mental trepidation on the beach afterward, mental trepidation so thick, you could feel it. People were hesitant, reluctant, and fearful as they eased their way off the beach and into the water – and some head turning followed to make sure a shark wasn’t sneaking up on them.

And speaking of Susan Backlinie, she was quite a package in that movie. She looked like a high school kid or college student, but I’m guessing she was 28 when the scene was shot – 29 by the time the movie was released. Her birthday’s September 1, 1946. Do the math. Which makes her pushing 74 today.

She has 11 acting credits, but none in any major roles. The photo’s from Two Minute Warning.

I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.

My first book – Born to Be Wild – Published in 1992 – Still selling on Amazon & Kindle. A true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.

The story took 21 years to play out – many twists & turns – an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
