Make no mistake about it, I am America’s Best Crime Writer. No, I didn’t sell as many books as dozens of other authors out there. But I never claimed to be the best selling crime writer, did I?

I’ve done things in the crime world that other writers would never consider doing. Send an email to your favorite crime writer and ask him or her if they ever stayed in a safe house for three months while the FBI was trying to kill their client and they would’ve been collateral damage. And since they were the new kid in town, they were sent out at night to make contacts and had to keep looking over their shoulder.

Pretty sure the answer is none of them did that. Which puts me a leg up on the rest of the pack.
