Boy Meets Girl

Just another “Boy Meets Girl” scene ─ except this boy is James Gandolfini and this girl is Annabella Sciorra ─ and the scene is from the 1993 movie Mr. Wonderful. I wrote about James Gandolfini the other day in his highly recognizable role of Tony Soprano.

That said, Darlene A. McGarrity & Deborah Imbesi remembered him best as the hit man in True Romance. I love True Romance ─ watched it a couple dozen times ─ and I liked him as the hit man. But even though he was only in two scenes in Mr. Wonderful, that’s where he made his mark with me.

If you haven’t seen Mr. Wonderful, Gus (Matt Dillon) is an electrician in New York City and he’s broke because he’s paying alimony to ex-wife Leonora (Annabella Sciorra). So he comes up with a hair-brained scheme to set her up with dates, marry her off, and end the alimony payments.

One date is with fellow electrician Mike (James Gandolfini) ─ a 40-year-old slug of a Mama’s boy. Here’s the scene.

I love Mr. Wonderful. Saw it at least 25 or 30 times. Nice cast that includes Mary-Louis Parker, William Hurt, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Luis Guzman.
