Al Lettieri

Al Lettieri

So I’m watching one of my favorite actors, Charles Bronson – in the 1974 movie Mr. Majestyk  – based on the 1974 best-seller of the same name – by one of my favorite authors, Elmore Leonard.

And this nasty hitman Frank Renda enters the scene. Here, take a look.

So I’m saying to myself ‘This guy looks awfully familiar … Is he that guy in Rocky? … Wait … Can that be Turk Sollozzo from The Godfather?’

So I look up Mr. Majestyk and see that an actor named Al Lettieri played Frank Renda in Mr. Majestyk. So I look up The Godfather and – DAMN – I nailed it. Al Lettieri played Turk Sollozzo.

He was real good in both parts. How come I haven’t seen him in anything else?

So I look it up – Al Lettieri only accumulated 34 acting credits, most of them in TV. He died way back in 1975 at the age of 47. That explains it, all right. He’s been dead for almost 45 years.

I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.

My first book – Born to Be Wild – Published in 1992 – Still selling on Amazon & Kindle. A true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.

The story took 21 years to play out – many twists & turns – an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
