The art student and Red the bartender.
Absolute Power Trivia
Fell asleep last night watching The Horse Whisperer – remember liking it when it came out in 1998 – but from what I saw before dozing off – can’t figure out why.
Musta been Redford – sure wasn’t Kristin Scott Thomas or the young Scarlett Johansson – but I only saw a couple minutes.
Maybe I’ll watch it again somewhere down the line.
Woke up at 4 a.m. in the middle of a Clint Eastwood movie – that’s funny – love Clint – but never saw this movie – nice cast – Gene Hackman, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn – didn’t recognize Laura Linney – never saw her looking so pretty.
Turned on the lights & looked it up – Absolute Power (1997) – watching it now from the beginning.
But had to stop watching.
Trying to multitask, but you have to pay attention to this movie – looks great. So I’ll watch it tomorrow. But found a couple trivia items in the first few scenes.
Clint goes into Red’s Bar – wait a minute – Red the Bartender looks familiar. Who is he?
The movie opens with Clint in an art museum sketching. An art student stands next to, also sketching.
The art student is the 25-year-old daughter of Clint and Maggie Eastwood. Maggie graduated from UC Berkeley before they got married in 1953.
But didn’t have any children until 15 years later.
But if you think Clint wasn’t taking care of business – you’re wrong. During those 15 years he had children with at least two other women.
Getting back to Alison, she was born in Santa Monica in 1972. As a youngster she made uncredited appearances Bronco Billy (1980) & Any Which Way You Can (1987).
She then accumulated 33 acting credits – including two with her dad – Tightrope in 1984 and The Mule in 2018.
Getting back to Red the Bartender – Mark Margolis – born in Philly – 100 credits – 1 episode of Kojak (1977) – uncredited in Dressed to Kill (1980) and Arthur (1981) – then credited appearances in Scarface (1983) – The Rosary Murders (1987) – 5 episodes of The Equalizer (1885-89) – 1 episode of Colombo (1990) – Ace Ventura (1994) – and The Wrestler (2008).
But I recognized him from 8 episodes of Breaking Bad (2009-11) and 17 episodes of Better Call Saul (2016-20).
I’ll tell you about the movie tomorrow.
