Since I was in Kensington this morning – decided to post this – my next book is called Cocaine – & it leads off in Kensington – based on the true story of the biggest cocaine seizure in U.S. history – June 17, 2019 – Port of Philadelphia – 17 tons of coke – street value around $1-billion

My story starts like this – Chapter 1 – 302(b) – Philadelphia – May 18, 2019:

Police emergency lights start flashing at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Orthodox Street in the Kensington section of the city. It’s 9:30 in the morning and, putting it as nicely as possible, Kensington is the cesspool of the city.

Crime and violence – robberies, beatings, shootings, homicides, and sex trafficking – exist throughout Kensington. To that pestilence, add pile after pile of trash and filth sitting on sidewalks for weeks on end. But the biggest problem in Kensington is drugs, drugs – and more drugs.

Drugs are not new to Kensington. Drug problems existed in Kensington for at least the last four decades.

Bearing witness to that fact is 1982’s movie Fighting Back. The movie is about taking Kensington back from the criminals and drug dealers who rule the streets. And Fighting Back is not a low-budget documentary or independent film.

Tom Skerritt – who plays Tom Cruise’s commanding officer in Top Gun – stars in Fighting Back. Patti LuPone, Michael Sarrazin, and Yaphet Kotto play supporting roles.

Hollywood legend Dino De Laurentiis produced the movie. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, he produced 185 movies including The Valachi Papers, Death Wish, and Conan the Barbarian.

Lewis Teague directed the movie. If you’re unfamiliar with Teague’s work, he directed The Jewel of the Nile and Cujo.
