I could’ve titled this post “Murder, She Wrote” ─ but went with “Jessica Fletcher” instead.

I could’ve categorized it as “TV Crime Show” ─ “Character” ─ “Hero” ─ but went with “The Dead Stripper” instead. Why, you may be asking?

Other than backhanded self-promotion, the answer is simple. Here’s how IMDB describes Murder, She Wrote:

“Professional writer and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher uses her intellect, charm, and persistence to get to the bottom of every crime she encounters.”

And here’s how the book description describes The Dead Stripper:

“Like Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote, Steve Piasecki is thrust into the role of amateur detective. To solve the crimes he encounters he uses moxie, charisma, and dogged determination. An aspiring author awaiting his first big break, he moonlights as an Uber driver to pay his bills.”

The similarities are not accidental. Both main characters become amateur sleuths who’re thrust into the midst of crimes by chance. Yet they get to the bottom of things before the police detectives can figure things out.

The main difference between Murder, She Wrote and The Dead Stripper is the main character. Jessica Fletcher was a middle-aged female but Steve Piasecki is a handsome thirty-four year old male.

Although I didn’t see every episode of Murder, She Wrote, I don’t remember Jessica Fletcher getting entangled in any romantic involvements that were consummated. But in The Dead Stripper, Steve Piasecki becomes entangled in two romantic involvements that are definitely consummated. In fact, his two sexual correspondents are best friends who wind up in a tug-of-war to see who gets him.

The Dead Stripper is a contemporary murder mystery / love story set in Philadelphia and its suburbs ─ and it’s much more. The Dead Stripper takes you into the worlds of opioids, drug cartels, crime, detection, the courtroom, and the New York publishing industry. The story is inspired by real people and real events, and it rings true from beginning to end.
