Trading Places

Trading Places

I love to poke fun at the stereotypical Main Liners. You know, the ones with their noses in the air and think their shit don’t stink. So it goes without saying that I took a shot at them in The Dead Stripper – available March 1st – by using the classic Eddie Murphy movie Trading Places as my example.

I submit Randolph and Mortimer Duke and Louis Winthorpe III and all of their cronies from The Club as my pawns.

I take my shot at Main Liners in Chapter 3 – aptly titled “Trading Places.” Like this:

Bryn Mawr sits right smack in the heart of the Main Line. If you’re unfamiliar with Philly, the Main Line’s a string of affluent communities starting at the St. Charles Borromeo Seminary at the intersection of City Line and Lancaster Avenue. That’s where Pope Francis stayed on his visit to Philly a few years back. From there the Main Line stretches westward along Lancaster Avenue for a good twenty miles before arbitrarily ending around the town of Malvern.

The Main Line’s the right side of the tracks, an area where a certain percentage of residents were born with silver spoons in their mouths and picture themselves as being better than everyone else. Take the classic Eddie Murphy movie Trading Places. His bosses Randolph and Mortimer Duke lived in an opulent mansion on the Main Line. Dan Aykroyd’s character Louis Winthorpe III was a Main Liner and so were his frat buddies at The Club.

I’m America’s Best Crime Writer – Barry Bowe – & I approve this message.

My first book – Born to Be Wild – Published in 1992 – Still selling on Amazon & Kindle. A true story about certain members of the Warlocks motorcycle gang.

The story took 21 years to play out – many twists & turns – an amalgam of Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad – but these outlaw bikers make the Sons look like Cub Scouts.
